Governance

​

Management

  • The Festival Proceeding shall be under the management of the festival and or its committee. 

 

  • In the case of unforeseeable events, the festival committee reserves the right to postpone, cancel or change the venue of the Festival. The administration fee will not be refunded.

 

  • Any matters not covered in the rules shall be referred to the festival committee whose decision shall be final and binding.

 

  • The festival committee will not accept responsibility for lost or stolen items: damage to instruments or personal injury during the festival. 

 

Eligibility

  • No age limit will be imposed except where indicated. Age is as of Dec. 31st.  Photocopy of Birth certificate must accompany ALL application forms.

 

  • All competitions are open to amateurs only. An amateur is one whose principal means of livelihood is not obtained from the profession of music.

  • Students studying with this year’s participating adjudicators will not be eligible.

 

Entries

  • Contestants must enter at their current grade level. One grade level only may be entered, except in age achievement classes.

​

  • Where age is specified, only one age achievement class per contestant is permitted.

​

  • For vocal, please indicate details of music source.

​

  • Teachers/schools are responsible for CLEARLY PRINTED or typed entries on the form supplied (or copy thereof). Enter full title of piece exactly as it appears in the conservatory syllabus.

​

  • Incomplete and/or late applications will not be preceded.

​

  • No refunds, except for medical reasons (medical note must be provided specifying diagnosis and date of illness).  

​

  • NO CHANGES OR SPECIAL SCHEDULING REQUESTS WILL BE CONSIDERED.

​

  • The Festival Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry.

​

Competition Pieces

  • Pieces in all graded classes, other than Age Achievement, Musicals and Suzuki classes, must be selected from the current Royal Conservatory of Music Syllabus, Conservatory of Canada Syllabus, or Trinity College (UK) Syllabus. Signature on the registration/application form clearly denotes agreement that any payment of royalty fees is the responsibility of the contestant (or parent).

  • Grade 11= A.R.C.T.,Diploma Level

​

  • A competition piece cannot be used in more than one class.

​

  • Contestants must supply original music for the adjudicator when in person). No photocopies allowed.  For online festivals, the contestant must submit a scanned copy of the score for each category.

​

  • Contestants must play their selection(s) from memory in order to receive a mark. Piano pieces are to be played without repeat (the exception being Da Capo).

​

  • Length of piece must not exceed 10 minutes unless time limit is specified. Adjudicator may enforce this time stipulation.

​

  • Vocal pieces may be performed in a key suitable for the voice.

​

  • No coaching is allowed from the audience for voice or any instrument. Contestants coached from the audience during competition will be disqualified.

​

  • Vocalists and strings are to supply their own accompanists. Taped accompaniment is not permitted.

 

Festival Procedures

  • Contestants must arrive at least 10 minutes before their scheduled class (in person). Or, contestants must be logged in online at least 10 minutes prior to their scheduled class. 

​

  • Rehearsing on location is not permitted. (String instrumentalists may have their instruments tuned by a teacher or other person.)

​

  • Audio and video recording and photography are strictly prohibited.

​

  • Parents, teachers and contestants are not permitted to converse with the adjudicator.

​

  • The decision of the adjudicator must be accepted as final.

​

  • Questions from a competitor must be directed to the Festival officials/committee.

 

Awards 

  • A minimum mark of 80% must be gained to obtain first place. For in person Festivals, a trophy will be awarded to first place contestants at a special Gala following the festival. The trophy will be delivered for online winners.  

​

  • First place finalists will be invited to perform at the Festival Gala Concert.  Scholarships will also be awarded. 

​
